If your machine has been around a while maybe a pin or two on the connector is dirty with film or tobacco smoke. .

Can you connect another peripheral to the same port to try it ?

And i assume the hp works if connected to another machine.

When i got my first Lexmark it would not print. It is USB . It kept saying it didn't have enough memory. I looked everywhere and called lxmark who were no help.
I increased VM , Added RAM , allocated more to the printer memory etc. Still no good.

Themn a lister told me I needed memory in the form of free space on the boot partition..

It hadn't even occurred to me ! Yes, the list helps where even the manufacturer and the software itself fails to inform.
