Yes once the file has entirely been set to the LaserWriter it is beyond the control of the computer. This is not a fault of your hardware or software. Your only recourse in that case is to turn the printer off. If you are printing a text file using a font built into the laserwriter it is quite possible for the printer to print well over a 20 pages with out further data coming from the computer.


Most office applications designed to work in an office environment have a print preview function to allow for a final look at the format etc before the job is sent to the printer. OS X has preview available as a system function. If one is concerned that issues of font substitution etc may create format problems at the printer then for a big job it might be prudent to print the first several pages and look them over before sending the entire file to the printer.

Pretend you are casting fine metals. The mold must be perfect for once the molten metal starts flowing it is simply too late to remake the mold.
