Hmmm. Black cable. Usually the ground wire in the power cable leading to the CD-ROM and the Hard Drive is black.
It is possible that the wire has separated from the connector that would go to the hard drive, especially if it is one of two connectors on the same set of wires that make up the common power cable. I don't know of any other "black cable" in the machine.

if it is a black cable with a connector on it - it might aswell be the cd player analog sound cable !??
