Trying to remember... 7.6 was a pay upgrade? *grumble* Stick with
7.5.5. If you have any DHCP problems, lemme know.

Well, for a start the 7300 and the Panther Mac cannot see each other (haven't tried hooking up other machines yet).

Use a hub or switch, not a crossover-cable.

Turn on TCP/IP and make sure you can ping each other. That will verify that your NICs and cabling are working properly.

Make sure you have AppleTalk and File Sharing turned on, on both machines. That's regular file sharing over AppleTalk, NOT over IP. Sharing over IP is not support on System 7.

From the 7300, you should now see the other Mac in the "AppleShare" selector of the Chooser.

From the Mac running Panther, well, that's going to be hit and miss. Our new PB randomly can't see our Macs and server via AppleTalk here. After two hours on the phone wth Apple, I was told this is an "issue" with Panther.

CD, then add OS9Helper to get to 9.2.2...

Hate 9.x - so slow. Much prefer 8.6 if I need a fairly modern Classic MacOS.

To each his own. *shrug*
