I used to do some freelance repair work and I've found that most computers are fundamentally the same.
The 7.5.5 floppy was for my 8500, and I'm sure there's a floppy image out there somewhere for >8.5.1. You don't have to write the image to a floppy, mind you, any media will (theoretically) work, like Zip disk, USB/FireWire drive, other hard drive, CD--whatever the B&W supports boot from.>> -------------------- Yeah, maybe I'm being a little too picky. I recently acquired a B/W and was surprised it did not boot from my retail (green label) OS 8.5 install disk. It really needs 8.5.1 or later. There is no way (AFAIK) to fit an 8.5.1 (or an 8.5.0) bootable system on a floppy disk. Some B/W came equipped with ZIP disks and a bootable system would fit on a ZIP. There is no native SCSI on the B/W so external SCSI drives with removable media won't work unless a SCSI card is installed. And I may be wrong but I don't think a B/W will boot from FireWire unless you use the Xpostfacto hack. I don't have FireWire drive to check this out. If the original poster has the capability of burning a bootable disk image to CD (if no ZIP or SCSI is present) and a bootable disk image can be found that could work; remember 8.5.0 won't work. Your concerns and help have not gone unnoticed. I still think this topic should go to the g-list. --glen (digest mode) -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
