The more RAM, the longer the pause before loading.

Turn off RAM checking during startup, and the delay will be greatly 
reduced, using the Memory control panel.

This delay, not surprisingly, is directly proportional with the amount of 
RAM installed ... minimal RAM, short delay; lots of RAM, long delay.

I have a long delay on my 768 MB Beige G3, an even longer delay on my 1 
GB PowerComputing Power Tower 225 (G3'd at 350 MHz), and a very long 
delay on my 1.5 GB 9600.
