Bad RAM? Open the unit and inspect its DIMMs to see if they are identical or are all 60ns. Reinsert one by one (or in pairs) until it hangs - the last one may be bad. Also try cleaning the CD-ROM's lens with any commercial kit, unplug/replug the SCSI ribbon cable behind (with the unit shut down), or exchange it for the 9600's.
