> tired of Appleworks changing text formatting randomly
Does Apple knows about this?
Apple doesn't care. This and worse bugs have been known since 6 came out. AW is essentially orphaned anyway; see the recent iWork announcement.
By the way, I would like to ask if any one knows a classic application that can open up (read or edit) *any version* of Mac or Win Microsoft Office documents?
As shipped, AW 6.2.x does pretty well converting Office docs.
Try it from within the app, not by double-clicking on the document in the Finder. IOW, launch AppleWorks and do an Open, then select the specific type of document you want to create, then the specific translator.
Another possibility, if you have only a few documents to be converted... Find someone on this list or via IRC etc that has Office/Mac or /PC. Get them to translate the files to formats that you can translate.
