Yes, I had a beige G3 266mHz desktop which came with a G3 labeled OS9 disc. I later tried installing his on my 9600 and it wouldn't accept it. The error was something like 'not compatible with this hardware'. I guess the motherboard wasn't young enough. If you've used an upgrade card there is still something in the hardware that the installer detects as being part of the 8500.
