The adapters (2) cost $14.25 shipped and I didn't dither, just bought the first one I could find that wasn't overpriced. Have you installed the Cheetahs yet? I bought one of those and there's no provision for termination, so it can't be the last on the chain. I haven't decided how to try to arrange the stuff in my 8600 yet, but I keep reading about some people needing to take it to a PC to format, and then try to put it into the Mac and the Mac will be able to see it at least. I guess this topic never gets old, as long as folks are determined to get more storage in an older machine.
