The 8600 motherboards, *both* early and late, are "printed" for 10 DIMM
positions:

 1: DIMM
 2: DIMM
 3: DIMM
 4: Cache DIMM
 5: DIMM
 6: DIMM
 7: DIMM
 8: DIMM
 9: DIMM
10: ROM DIMM (*Never used*)

All 10 are "stuffed" for early machines.

Position 4 is not "stuffed" for late machines. If a socket is present
here, the motherboard necessarily must be a /233 or slower. If a socket
is *not* present here, the motherboard necessarily must be a /250 or
faster.

The "artwork" appears to be the same, although we know the processor
slots are not identical, therefore there must be some subtle differences.

A similar situation exists for the 9600s, except the cache is in chips
soldered to the motherboard, not in a DIMM.

These chip positions are not "stuffed" for late machines. If chips are
present, the motherboard necessarily must be a /233 or slower. If chips
are *not* present, the motherboard necessarily must be a /250 or faster.

Mach 5 motherboards support /250, /300, /350 and /400, but /400 was never
made.

Because of the procesor card design, the bus runs at 50 on these machines.
