Actually, PC MacLan is software that allows a PC to join an Appletalk network. For a Mac in a PC world, you need DAVE, from Thursby Systems, or OS X, which has native SMB (Windows networking) support.
And neither of these things address the original poster's need to read disks formatted as NTFS; this is a hassle, since one of the tools in our recovery arsenal is a Wiebetech Firewire Drivedock, I can recover files from non-booting PC disks or PC's that die from causes other than the drive, but not if the drive was formatted as NTFS.
Then I gotta find the little firewire cable and connect it to one of other PC's in the office with firewire, both laptops.
One reason I'm anticipating the release of Tiger.
