at this point after power-on mac now actually begins to boot:
power to monitor is available
boot process and drives are heard to make usual start-up noises
monitor screen lights up
cursur arrives on screen
"Mac OS 9.1" appears on screen
resolution changes a couple times
"starting up" progress block appears and about a 'quarter of an
inch' of progress is shown
then it freezes
freezes both in booting from the regular startup disc and from
rescue cd at the same place
Make sure your DIMMs are identical - all 60 ns. A friend had the same
experience with the boot-up process freezing in the same place until
I discovered he had a 70 ns DIMM mixed with 60 ns ones. His 8600/300
would now complete the boot-up sequence.
