Might be the wrong answer, but I last week a similar situation happened to
me. The 9600 running 9.1 could see the Macmini  running 10.3.9, on the
network but not the other way round. After ages checking IP addresses,
pings, and everything else I found the 9600 had for some reason turned all
the individual volume's sharing to OFF in the Get Information panel. It had
previously always been on. Problem solved immediately.
