personally i'm a fan of the sloop national championship for many of
the same reasons andy said below (i.e. it gets that many more people
out on the water and able to race). there actually seems to be some
good momentum for people to consider becoming professional match
racers in certain parts of the world. i'd hate to see the ICSA stop
supporting the sloop championship when other parts of the world seem
to be beefing this aspect of the sport.
news flash: sailing is not the easiest sport to host championship
events :-) i don't think that's a good reason to cancel a national
championship (unless there are other reasons I'm not aware of here).
if people want an easier time hosting events, maybe we should switch
to juggling :-)
there are three types of iPhone users in this world: those who know
how to count, and those who don't.

From my perspective, I don't see what has changed about the fact
that it is difficult to get boats or host in district events. It
has always been difficult.
The University of Hawaii has hosted both the Sloop Nationals
fall 1992 and the PCCs in fall of 1996 and it would take some
convincing to talk me into hosting again. As for lack of
interest I do believe the event(s) provide an opportunity for some
people that are to big for the dinghies to compete for a national
championship. The University of Hawaii most likely not
participate due to budgetary reasons if it is not considered to be
part of the National Championships. HOW ABOUT THOSE
RAINBOWS!!!!!!! SUGER BOWL BABY!!!!!

IMPORTANT!
How does our district feel about Sloop Nationals?
MAISA is proposing to ICSA/Championships Committee to eliminate Sloop
Nationals based on the lack of interest coupled with difficulty in
procuring
boats and hosting the event, not to mention the difficulties
involved in
hosting the in-district qualifying events.
How does our district feel about this proposal? Let me know so I can
represent our district accurately.
