For example, in pcre_compile.c you have something like: #ifndef USDATA #define USDATA unsigned char #endif Then have a separate source file called pcre16_compile.c that contains #define USDATA unsigned pcre_int16 #include "pcre_compile.c" > We should start with the build system update (even if the 16 postfixed files > would contain the same library now).
