If the PC is locked, you should be able to click your username to type in your
password to get back into your profile. Otherwise, as do as Larry suggested
with one addition, there is an extra Del:
Ctrl-Alt-Del-Del
That is hold Ctrl and Alt while tapping Del twice.

Good Question Ruby!  :-)

I am assuming you have a user ID and password that you normally
use to login to Windows.

If the PC is locked, you use Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will ask you
for your User ID and Password.

There are lots of references to the Windows (logo) Key Commands on the
Internet.  Do a search for “Windows Key Commands” in Google and you will see
almost 57,000 hits.

Here are some I ran across near the top of the results:

A-Z Windows Key Commands
http://realtimer.hubpages.com/hub/A-Z-Windows-Key-Commands

Windows Key Commands - BOSMA Weekend Assistive Technology Seminar
(info on using with screen readers so you can "hear" what you are doing).
http://www.brlsts.com/Windows%20Key%20Commands.html

PC Keyboard Shortcuts
(includes tables of all types: Ctrl, Alt, F, Windows Logo Keys, etc. in tables).
http://www.digitalmindcomputers.com/pc-keyboard-shortcuts/

Mac Keyboard Shortcuts
http://www.digitalmindcomputers.com/mac-keyboard-shortcuts/

Here is one table from the DigitalMind Computers page above.  I have not
personally verified that each command works.

Keyboard Shortcut Result in Windows® XP - General
Windows Logo Display or hide the Start menu
Windows Logo+BREAK Display the System Properties dialog box
Windows Logo+D Display the desktop
Windows Logo+M Minimize all of the windows
Windows Logo+SHIFT+M Restore the minimized windows
Windows Logo+E Open My Computer
Windows Logo+F Search for a file or a folder
CTRL+Windows Logo+F Search for computers
Windows Logo+F1 Display Windows Help
Windows Logo+L Lock the keyboard
Windows Logo+R Open the Run dialog box
Windows Logo+U Open Utility Manager

The commands I use dozens of times a dayare the +E for “My Computer” (which I
still call Explorer) and the +L key to lock my computer.  At my work we have
screen savers that lock the computer after no activity for 15 minutes.  But if
I step out of my office I must make sure no one can use my computer and the +L
is much faster than the alternative Ctrl-Alt-Del W combination for “Lock
Workstation”.

Windows Helphas similar tables, if you can find how to get to it:

Press Windows Logo+F1 to display Windows Help
Enter “Keyboard shortcut” in the Search field.
There are other tidbits about keyboard shortcuts in the search results you
might find interesting, but for now,
Select “Windows keyboard shortcuts overview”

After I pasted the above text from the search results, I realized it was a link
(which makes sense).  If you click on it (and ignore the warning) it may take
you directly to the “Windows keyboard shortcuts overview page”, but possibly
without the graphics.  That link is
ms-its:C:\WINDOWS\Help\keyshort.chm::/keys_general.htm.  And yes you can drag
the link from the URL (address or location) field in your browser onto your
links or favorites bar, or onto your desktop, so you can get to it easily
whenever you want.  Again, the graphics on the page don’t load – at least for
me.

Using the run feature in windows 7 is the same as it is in Vista. You either
type what you want in the box above the start button, or press the keys to
bring up the run box. Windows in general uses the Win-r keys (press the windows
key and tap "r" key) to bring up a run box to type your command in. This
displays the same Run box as the older windows where you click start and run.

Hi Larry:  I had people over to watch the game   great win!!!  Unfortunately,
no one knew how to use my new Win 7 machine so I am back to my own devices and
winging it without much success.  For instance:  Microsoft tells me to go to
Start and “open” and then “run”.  I can’t find them!!! Google isn’t leading me
anywhere at all.

If you would like to help, leave me your phone number and best time  to call or
use mine:  485-8838.

Tomorrow the normalcy begins again and I have appts to keep so I’ll be in and
out.  Thanks, Larry

  Marion

PS I’m writing this on my Vista laptop which I am glad to have!!!
