I love Fireworks, but onto your question. Have you tried opening the file
through your browser or Irfan or whatever else you have. Do this, it may
take a few attempts but windows should get the hint. Irfan in it's latest
incarnation is really bullish about file associations too. Every time I
have uninstalled Fireworks or PhotoShop, Irfan always takes over.
