Thanks for the reply Peter.  Yes, irfan view will open the
png files fine.  IE just won't.  (Iview won't take anything
over if you don't check any of the boxes in the file
associations tab).  I posted an update on this earlier to the
list.  Still have the problem too.

I love Fireworks, but onto your question.  Have you tried
opening the file
through your browser or Irfan or whatever else you have.  Do
this, it may
take a few attempts but windows should get the hint.  Irfan
in it's latest
incarnation is really bullish about file associations too.
Every time I
have uninstalled Fireworks or PhotoShop, Irfan always takes
over.
