sorry.......I guess I answered this in a hurry...yes, My Documents is on C
drive and not in C:\Windows

been using Win 2k/Win XP too long and forget where everything is on all the
different OSes....hope I didn't confuse you TOO much

the only way to avoid that extra windows folder is to format your hard drive
(after backing up all your stuff) and install windows clean

Larry, the ~ means a temp file. You can't get a 'clean
install' really, those folders will always be added for a
reinstallation. Go to your C: drive and find my documents
and just make a shortcut for it on your desktop (it's not in
the windows folder in Win 98). It may already be on your DT,
change your monitor res settings to as high as it will go,
then see if there are any icons that were 'way off to one
side', then drag them towards the center where you will see
them at your regular res setting.

No problem Linda I know everything is with an effort "to help" and I am still
working on the problem. For some reason My Document shows up if I right click
My Computor and go to C drive. But if I try to make a shortcut to it, it does
not show up. Same thing happens when I try to save a file using the browser
it does not show up.
Strange things are happening.
