I hope everyone is having a great day.
I have a couple of questions that I hope you can help me with. Sorry this
is a long message.
I am running Windows 98, with Outlook Express 5.5 and IE 5.5. Lately (past
month or two), my computer has been doing really strange things - giving
error boxes for various things (most of which I hadn't heard of, before now)
Lately, when I open OE, it takes ages, and quite often I get an MSIMN error
message (Not responding - invalid page fault in..stack dump). At other
times the Inbox will open and after a long wait, I do a ctrl alt del and it
states that the inbox isn't responding. So I close it down and try again.
Usually after I do this a couple of times it works fine.
Lately, I'm getting a not-responding error message stating that WUCRTUPD
will be closed down (this is the Windows Critical Update, I discovered
through looking at msconfig in start-run).
These minor things haven't worried me, but two days ago I found that can't
run my Norton's Live Update, which I do regularly, (gives a NAVLU32
not-responding message), nor can I do a scan disk or defrag, which I haven't
done for a while. (I managed a scan disk, but it only worked, I discovered,
if I kept moving the mouse (very slightly), otherwise it stopped working
(light went off, icon stopped moving and stopped showing progress) - no
errors on disk. Defrag made the right noises and the light was on but after
ten minutes it stopped working,even with mouse movement. Defrag also
stopped my computer clock, which only restarted with a mouse or keyboard
movement)
For the life of me, I can't figure these out - I'm guessing they must be
related. (What worries me is what damage am I doing and what will happen
next!)
Can anyone help me with suggestions or ideas as to what's happening and how
to fix it?
