THanks to all who replied to the problem.
The computer, which is not mine, is only about3 months old.
The owner has been in telephone contact with the makers who got him to run
some tests and the outcome is that he
is to have either a new battery fitted to the motherboard
or a new motherboard.
He is not sure what it is until they get here.
