Thanks (dorian)
That was incredible. I thought I kept up a high standard of
maintainance by doing the usual clean ups. I couldn't believe the
memory I recovered.
I shall keep your information close by for future maintenance. I have
to admit that I lost some confidence with the C:\Windows\Temp folder.
There were lots of references to registry entry and a couple of other
things that I would be nervous about dumping. Any thoughts.
The other minor problem was that I didn't want to ditch friendly cookies
such as my bank and other things. I don't necessarily want to block
cookies because they are not a major problem. However is it possible to
be selective without going through every individual cookie.
The last part of my original query was that I use a programme called
JASC Paint Shop Pro 7 a lot which means creating and manipulating images
etc.
The actual programme and any memory hungry graphics are kept on other
drives.
The question is really in two parts, what may be hogging memory that is
not obvious. (This was well answered)
Why if I have installed the above programme on another section does it
hog memory on the C section and how can I change it so that it works
within one of the memory rich sections. Overall I have lots of memory
available but it is in the wrong place.

I have a Dell Computer. I have windows 98 SE and have experienced the
same problems. This is what I have done and it solved all my problems.
Be careful when you follow these instructions! Print them out first!
Good luck! Dorian
****These instructions are for deleting the temporary files created when
certain programs are run or installed. (Windows is SUPPOSED to do this
automatically but it often misses LOTS and these files, if left behind,
can cause lots of problems with your computer.) These instructions will
NOT delete temporary Internet files*****
