Calling all networking experts ... Win98SE home network (3 machines), file & printer sharing, internet connection sharing -- everything works fine (more or less!). Printer is hooked up to the main machine and prints fine from all machines on network.
Now I am trying to install an additional LOCAL printer, not on the main machine, but on one of the others. Windows insists on giving it the same port as the network printer (i.e. LPT1 \\virginia\hpdeskjet) and there seems no way of assigning it to another port. The only other possibilities listed by Windows are the two comm ports. Windows "Help" doesn't seem to help at all! I've tried everything, but the new printer is always given LPT1 the same as the network printer, which causes a dreadful conflict. There must be some way of assigning a different port address to a local printer, surely?? I want to use the new printer locally, as well as the current network printer. New Printer is HP Deskjet 610C, and I have the latest drivers d/l from HP. Any suggestions? Thanks a million.
