When installing new software in Win98, I have always paid careful attention to shutting down all running applications before beginning a new software installation. Using Alt+Ctrl+Del brings up a list of applications running in the background. I have always used the "End Task" button to shut down everything except Explorer and Systray.
My son got a new WinXP machine for Christmas, and I wonder if it is necessary to shut down running apps in XP before installing new software. If so, which items should be left running? (Explorer and Systray don't exist in XP). Eric Neef Beverly Hills, Michigan ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
