Gerry,
I sure wished I had fully knowed these issues when I had done the work on
my friend's computer.
What I find totally weird is that when you go to the web site and download
the upgrade to the program, NONE of these issues are specified to be looked
at / followed - all you end up doing, from what I can remember, is to just
download the update, and install over the previous version. This was
primarily the way things seemed to be handled with the free version of the
program, which is what I have been using, and have never had a problem. BUT
it seems that the Pro version is MUCH more touchy on the upgrading
proceedure, and from what I read on the web site, seems to require MUCH
more cleaning and procedure following to prevent problems than I had
realized when I did the upgrade to the new version 3.
Since the firewall that comes with OnTrack's SystemSuite seems to be doing
it's job, I think I am going to continue with it on my friend's computer,
unless I see a reason to change. However, I have to do a completely new
install of Win98SE and Win2K on my home system, since I got a new
motherboard, processor, memory, case (am going to put the "guts" of old
system in new system), and this leaves me wondering which firewall I should
install on my own system - ZoneAlarm Pro or OnTrack's SystemSuite???
Also, on that note, have you seen any compares between ZoneAlarm Pro,
OnTrack SystemSuite, Norton, and others????

For reinstall problems see question 1 here:
http://www.zonelabs.com/services/support_install.htm
In many cases ZoneAlarm should be disabled before installation of other
software, especially if the other software requires connection to the
Internet. I don't know if you did a program install while ZA was working
but this could be the problem. I've had similar experiences...
