Ed,

You are not kidding when you say that - I can NOT believe how much of a
mess this is going to make with regard to development issues, let alone for
users. One article I was reading about Visual Basic programs will present
one of the BIGGEST nightmares for VB developers. And since many database
programs, especially for enterprise and related operations, are developed
these days in VB, this will end up one nightmare heaped on another
nightmare upon .... and so forth trying to update these programs when you
have to use the new packages for new/update development. I guess it will
not be a huge issue for new development BUT much work is usually in
modifying current code to add features or modifying existing features.

Clint,

You might want to take a look at this URL at Microsoft's web site -
hopefully, it might give you a better idea of the whole NET philosophy of
Microsoft, and new development that Microsoft expects it's developers to
get into:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/

Until this latest version of the development software that
programmers/developers were using, such as Visual C++, Visual Basic, and so
forth, the programs were generally given version numbers, with the last
release of Visual Studio, and the components, being 6 (Visual Basic 6,
etc). With the new approach of Microsoft, the total package and each
component is now called NET. Hence, the package is Visual Studio NET, and
components are Visual Basic NET. Also, in light with this new approach,
Microsoft has developed a "new" language for this development - Visual C#.
So if you see any references to C#, with regard to computer development,
this is what is being refered to.
