Same thing is happening to me. I've gotten email from people I don't know, and I've never heard of asking me computer questions (and probably spam as well). They said they found my email address at google when google indexed PCworks archive messages.
We have the same problem at an email list I have; its archives are also not protected and some members aren't too happy about that. They found that they could do a search for their email addresses at some search engines and find the email list archive messages are showing in the hits. I was told by those that offer the list that if archives WERE protected, then they would not be searchable by our members. So, what they are implementing is a bot that strips all email addresses from the archived messages. That way, your list will still have it's "Free publicity" yet protect the email address anonymity of its members. -Clint God Bless Us All Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello. The idea crossed my mind due to a relevant post to another list. I think there should be a stricter policy regarding the list's archives. I have got a couple of spam messages due to my subscription in this list. I can understand that there has to be somewhere an archive of the list's messages but I think it could be password-protected so that spam-bots can't get access there. Furthermore, if we want to "promote" our list, we could make available a few sample posts with the e-mail information stripped off. Thanks for your time. -- tnu ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
