Fellow PCWorkers, (not seeing the usual number of postings I suppose many are away on vacations. Nevertheless, I'll send this a second time, and again, if necessary, after Labor Day)
Using Windows 98 with an HP Pavilion, and having a strange problem with installing MS Word 2000. I have it on my computer, and was always able to install it with my Word CD. However, something has now changed. I want to reinstall the program because I "suspect" there is something about it causing periodic freezes in the system. However, upon re-installing the program (Im glad I still have it in the system and didnt delete the program first), I get the following message: "The MSIEXEC.exe file is linked to missing export MSI.DLL:222" ... then another message: "Cannot launch C:\Windows\System\MSIEXEC.exe ... A device attached to the system is not functioning." I do have the above file, msiexec.exe, in my System folder but, according to the above message, not functioning. 1. Anyone know what the above messages mean? 2. Is there a way to get any above non functioning files (other than reinstalling the OS)? 3. What is msi.dll.222 ? ... I never saw a file with such an extension. 4. And if there is a way of getting any of the above missing or non-functioning files, where would they go? Hoping all are having a great summer (and a comfortable winter down under) .... Harold B. in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, NY ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
