Have you tried replacing the msi.dll file? It's part of windows installer. Someone like Gerald will know more but I believe the 222 is a line number/entry reference point for the dll file. That may be why Word doesn't want to install. Also I know that MS has done several installer updates since releasing Win98 that are required by newer MS programs. You may not have the correct version. I can't get to the Win98 update site. If you can, set it to see all updates, both installed and uninstalled and see if there is one that mentions windows installer.
