THIS WORKS!
Downloading MSI.DLL from various sites and InstMsiA.exe from Micrsoft.com
did not fix the problem. I receive this technical guidance from my computer
manufacturer. It worked like a charm!
___________

The error "Missing MSIEXEC.EXE file is linked to missing export
MSI.DLL.222" is due to a old version of the file in the system or due to
file corruption.

To resolve this issue you will have to extract the following files:

1. msiexec.exe
2. msi.dll
3. msihnd.dll

I've inserted the specific directions below, on how to extract files in
Windows ME.

If they don't work, please reply back and advise what the results were,
and we'll try some other steps.

----------------------------------------
Extracting System Files in Windows ME:

In order to extract missing files in Windows ME Operating System,
perform the following steps:

1. Click Start, Run, and then type MSconfig.
2. Click OK and then click "Extract File".
3. Type the file name you want to extract.(the files listed above one at
a time)
4. In the 'Restore From' field, type C:\Windows\Options\CABS.
5. In the 'Save To' path, type C:\Windows\System.
6. Click OK.
7. Click Ok to backup option.

This will extract the file successfully into C:\Windows\System folder.

Subject: PCWorks: uh oh, a problem

Fellow PCWorkers, (not seeing the usual number of postings I suppose
many are away on vacations. Nevertheless, I'll send this a second time,
and again, if necessary, after Labor Day)

Using Windows 98 with an HP Pavilion, and having a strange problem with
installing MS Word 2000. I have it on my computer, and was always able
to install it with my Word CD. However, something has now changed.

I want to reinstall the program because I "suspect" there is something
about it causing periodic freezes in the system. However, upon
re-installing the program (I'm glad I still have it in the system and
didn't delete the program first), I get the following message:

"The MSIEXEC.exe file is linked to missing export MSI.DLL:222" ... then
another message:

"Cannot launch C:\Windows\System\MSIEXEC.exe ... A device attached to
the system is not functioning."

I do have the above file, msiexec.exe, in my System folder but,
according to the above message, not functioning.

1. Anyone know what the above messages mean?
2. Is there a way to get any above non functioning files (other than
reinstalling the OS)?
3. What is msi.dll.222 ? ... I never saw a file with such an extension.
4. And if there is a way of getting any of the above missing or
non-functioning files, where would they go?

Hoping all are having a great summer (and a comfortable winter down
under) .... Harold B. in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, NY
