This sounds typical of MS, I formatted an 80 gb Maxtor drive using the XP Pro cd to FAT32 and it did the entire drive without errors and saw the entire format afterwards. A 160 gb Maxtor drive was another problem altogether, but this has to do with most BIOS's being unable to break the 137 gb barrier.
