When you reboot, it will draw upon one of the back ups and restore that to take the place of the missing one. Windows, above win95 will create 5 backups listed as .da0, thru .da4. I think that even if you try to delete them while running, you will need to take off the system and readonly attributes. If you didn't do this, then you didn't really delete them.
