As I recall, the general designation for a self-defined drive was 47, not 48. If you have the drive type and size, you should be able to look up the specs for it and set that in the bios. (older systems did not always have auto define on the drives. Once this is set, you should be able to see the drive in the bios and from the prompt as well.
