Hi Marlene, The first part: I think Wally may be on to something with the BIOS being the problem. It just may be a bad battery and when you change settings in the BIOS setup, save and exit they are not being permanently "saved" because the battery is weak the settings return to default where the floppy is not set as the first boot device. You may notice the clock's time is not correct as well. The battery may be one of the common type similar to a watch battery about the size of a dime or quarter. Well lets hope so cause there are some strange battery types for older mother boards. If it is a common battery you can get them at WalMart. Second: There may be a problem with the power supply. I have seen power supplies cause all sorts of weird problems. When you are copying the files from the cd to the harddrive you are using a lot of power both of the drive motors are running. This could tax a weak or flakey power supply. The best way to eliminate the power supply is direct replacement. They aren't that expensive about $25 or so.
So to sum it up you have two problems a bad or weak BIOS battery and a bad power supply. Just a guess but maybe worth a try.
