Matt, the program I was looking hard at was ProShow Gold by www.photodex.com. It has all the features I was looking for. However, My current Oz "PC User" magazine received yesterday has a full and free version of Power Producer, which seems to do pretty much the same for slides (tho no synchronised soundtrack) and also puts your own video film onto a CDR to play on a DVD player. VCD and SVCD are supported. I'm looking very hard at this free gift! It requires DirectX 8.00 or higher.
Power Producer's origin seems to be : http://www.gocyberlink.com/ - I think Taiwan. Unfortunately, I haven't used either product as yet, but hope this helps.
