I am wondering what the maximum, or optimum, amount of RAM is for a Win 98SE system (1.7GHz CPU). I currently have 512 MB in both my machines, but have a spare 128 MB which I could add, provided it's not going to prejudice the system. I remember reading somewhere that anything over 512 MB in Win98 was counter-productive. Any ideas on this?
Also, what is the optimum RAM amount with Windows XP? I see new systems are being sold with 1GB or more! Thanks for your input.
