What is a thumbs.db?

How is it created?

I am assuming it is thumbnail database? I see it show up on my file list
when I am using ws-ftp, and also I see it when I copy files from my hard
drive to Zip disks.

But, I do not see it when I use Windows Explorer to look at folders.

They are a database file containing the small images displayed when you view a folder in "thumbnail" view.

WS_FTP happens to be one of the programs that uses and reads Microsoft's thumbs.db if it is available.

NOTE: You need to be able to view hidden files to see the Thumbs.db file

Deleting them doesn't really gain you anything except to save a little space. If you do delte them they can be re-created by clicking the folder in Windows Explorer, and then clicking Thumbnails on the View menu.
