Larry, where are you seeing this message? Is it being shown in the Nero Info tool?

Can you see your model in the device manager and is it shown to be working properly?

You may need a firmware upgrade not a driver, most if not all optical drives use the native drivers found in most OS's. Unfortunately the firmware upgrade site for Cyberdrive is down http://www.cyberdrive.de/en/download.php?op=viewdownload&cid=3

Thanks Peter for the input. I am getting a message that the driver for this CD
R/RW is corrupt. It is a Cyberdrive CW088D and all I can find on the internet
is a DOS driver. I do not find a driver for XP. This driver asked for
MSCDEX.exe and a file search says there isn't such a file on the computer in
XP pro. I searched another computer which has XP pro and sure enough there is
no such file. I can't seem to get the computer to use a resident generic
driver so I am lost. This is also a compaq so the restore disk that come with
it I can not even read due to the CD problem.
thanks again for hanging in there with me.

Open "My Computer" and left click on your cd burner icon, choose File, Properties, Recording, and uncheck "Enable cd recording on this drive". I had missed that step in the sequence, it isn't available if the IMAPI service is disabled from the beginning.
