Hello again ... HP Computer 3+ years old, 30 gig hard drive, Windows 98... Thank you, Jorge. I never knew they weren't important; I bet there are thousands of of files in any operating system that needn't be there. Personally I've done a lot of "housecleaning" and am satisfied with the results. But I never considered Autoexec.bat and Config.sys as unnecessary. I temporarily removed those four files and placed them into a folder I keep on my desktop (named, "Hold") to see how the system works without them in their original places. I always do that when I'm not sure of the importance of any file. So far, all is working fine.
The McAfee was deleted from my system and replaced by AVG. I'm happy about that and thank Hugh for the idea. Seems the deletion didn't remove the line from Autoexec file. Now the question is where to put that "numlock=off" command. If it is in the BIOS, that opens up a new adventure for me as I've heard of it, did some reading about it, but never edited or saw it.
