Hi again, Harold. If you need having the numlock off, you have two options: 1) open notepad, write this line as follows: numlock=off and save the file as c:\config.sys
2)If you want to play a little with the bios, go there and you'll find somewhere (probably under "advanced features" or similar) a line like this "numlock on" or "numlock enabled". just change it to off or disabled (most likely using the page down/up keys), then hit escape until it prompts you to save the changes and exit. Thank you, Jorge. I never knew they weren't important; I bet there are thousands
of of files in any operating system that needn't be there. Personally I've done a
lot of "housecleaning" and am satisfied with the results. But I never considered
Autoexec.bat and Config.sys as unnecessary. I temporarily removed those four
files and placed them into a folder I keep on my desktop (named, "Hold") to see
how the system works without them in their original places. I always do that when
I'm not sure of the importance of any file. So far, all is working fine.
The McAfee was deleted from my system and replaced by AVG. I'm happy about that
and thank Hugh for the idea. Seems the deletion didn't remove the line from
Autoexec file. Now the question is where to put that "numlock=off" command. If it
is in the BIOS, that opens up a new adventure for me as I've heard of it, did
some reading about it, but never edited or saw it. Any help on that? ... Harold
