the only choice was satellite or dialup. I choose multilink dialup, (two lines, double speed)
which wasn't fast at all but it was something :o))
Then I moved to a neighbourhood where cable was available, as well as a very slow and
expensive DSL service. The choice was obvious and it really works great.
All this was in 3 different homes, in a few miles' radius, in North Dallas and Richardson.
The cds were accesible (I actually updated my IE from one of them) but the setup
program just froze in the first one, and it would not run in the second one -at all-
Using amd xp2200+ 1GB pc2700 120GB HDD (was using W98SE, 40 GB and 512MB
SDRAM when I tried the Comcast installation CDs, same processor, still ATI 32MB video
card) Anyway, it did not really matter, besides getting upset for a while... I just called
their tech support and they guided me in the setup process, maybe 15 or 20 minutes
and that was all..
How fast is your wireless service?? Are you using it now?

You are lucky you at least have cable, out where I am I have satellite and wireless. Both of which require $1000.00 initially plus the usual $50/month service fee. This is for 2 way service. There is a 1 way satellite service through our Bell carrier which is just absurd and is slower than 56k sometimes!

Peak downloading speed with a local server is usually around 400kb/s.
Only problem is setting up the account, you have to trash the CD they give you and phone their technical support to do it (seems programs on CD do not work on purpose, so they can charge you for the installation after the Comcast man connects the modem to the cable.)
