Well, if you removed OE5 and went to OE6, that's as good as a "repair". If
you can open txt files everywhere else, then I don't know why you can't open
txt files attached in OE. Maybe check your txt files entries in "File types"
under Folder Options. You'd have to compare them to another PC though. It's
not enough they say .txt opens in Notepad, there is several other commands
under the "edit" area.

Interesting "film synopsis". Sounds like a Gene Shalit review. ;-) You
know, at 2AM and the right Time-Life infomercial you can order a collection
of "The haunting sounds of Anton Karas's zither" on CD. Hee hee. :-D

Hello again (using Internet Explorer 6 and Outlook Express 6),

UPDATE on the problem ... I reinstalled Internet Explorer 6 and Outlook
Express 6 (after backing up the Favorites folder and the Address Book). I
had to remove the old programs, which took some doing using the Add/Remove
applet and repeatedly having to restart the computer. The actual re-install
process took unusually little time (as though it was just repairing the two
programs. I think thats what I clicked for IE, repair).

Now when uploading doc and txt files into the email, I get appropriate icons
and labels in the Attach bar. However, in the Sent Items folder (and when
receiving the email), the doc file is accessible, BUT the txt file, although
the icon shows up upon clicking the paper clip, the label is still greyed
out (making the txt file not accessible).

DALE SAYS: Yes, try moving to Copenhagen. ... Dale

But Dale, I live in New York City. Why would anyone in NYC want to move to
Copenhagen? I mean can I buy Chinese food there at 2am?

CLINT SAYS: Ok, OE5 doesn't have that attachment check box. Sounds like you
may need to repair OE. ... Clint

And how do I do that? Rather than "repair", is it safe to totally remove IE
(using Add/Remove) and then reinstall it? Maybe I *should* move to
Copenhagen. Yeah, that'll be the day. And what is it, greyed out or
grayed out?

And speaking of Copenhagen I am reminded of some scene in that movie, The
Third Man (Orsen Welles, Joseph Cotten, and the haunting sounds of Anton
Karass zither). I wont go into the story but Harry Lime (played by Orsen
Welles), after coming off the Ferris wheel with his friend, delivers the
most famous lines of the film, (btw, written by Welles himself) his
devastating summary of history, also trying to show some benefits of war
(last thing I would do is promote war, but its an interesting comment). He
says: In Italy, for 30 years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror,
murder, bloodshed, and they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and
the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, 500 years of
democracy, and peace, and what did they produce? the Cookoo Clock. At
least, Copenhagen gave us Hans Christian Andersen Harold
