Thank you, John; that's much better. Nowhere did it tell me I have to go to
File, and Make new or Set existing backup folder. I was looking for a "Save
in" dialog box; this was something different.

Now it works fine in that "Complete Backup" gives me a folder called "Main
Identities" with all the email folders in there, three registry files called
AddressBook, AllIdentities, and IAM, and one more file (looks like the address
book wab file) called Compaq_Owner (and it is empty).

The "Main Identity" folder speaks for itself; all the email folders are in
there and seems easy to use if I had to restore OE (I suppose instead of
clicking "Complete Backup" ... I'd click "Complete Restore".

Question now is, how are the other four files used (the three registry files
and the empty wab file)? --- Harold.

PS. Now I have your email address but thought others might be interested in
your Quick Express Freebie Backup, http://www.oehelp.com/oebackup/default.aspx
which does seem to be working "like a dream". Again, for reasons I've
explained, http://askbobrankin.com/backup_outlook_express.html is interesting
also; maybe a few more steps but it's familiar territory.

> Harold, it'll work like a dream, but you have to make the target folder
first. Go into your flash drive and create an empty folder and call it
whatever you like (eg OE backup).

> Then in OEQuickBackup go File >Set Existing Folder as Backup. You'll get a
dropdown box where you have to find and select the folder you just created.
Then click "Complete Backup". And that's it. The nightmare happens if you try
to use the same folder on a future backup but forget to tick the box "Check
here to overwrite backed up files" (assuming that's what you want). BTW I
find it amusing that when you click Help it says "Not available yet" ---
John.

>> <snip> Seems I'm going in a circle when as I said above, I already have a
backup folder on my flash drive. Any suggestion? Like yours, I'd like mine to
work like a dream too Hope it doesn't turn out to be a nightmare; people will
be laughing saying, "See what happens when you go for freebies?" As I said,
it's no emergency. --- Harold :-)
