And somehow I got the feeling from some discussion here that those individual programs listed below did a better job than NIS. I often read about Norton problems which I never have with these programs. In fact, I use dialup, keep far away from aol (and yes, have "aim" and "icq" for grandchildren "et al") ... and have never to my knowledge ever had problems with the internet (evil eye, keep away from me).

Both programs are now off my computer but next time I reformat it, I'll ask around an maybe use them. I can retrieve Norton using Compaq's "Application Recovery" (right there on the Start menu) but Symantec is off for good. Norton will be a whole new experience for me. Right now, I'm looking at 172 log files; what the h-ll are they for? (next posting) --- Harold

Harold, the Norton Internet Security preinstalled on your system only has a 60 day subscription included. Now Compaq/HP may have a discounted update price for NIS, if not then you can expect to pay approx. $50.00 to renew your subscription. NIS includes anti v+rus, firewall, spam blocking, and parental control, and is a very good choice for doing all these things if you don't have time to do them yourself. Plus it runs seamlessly in the background. So with it you wouldn't need AVG, ZoneAlarm, Ad-aware, Spybot, or CWShredder. --- Peter Kaulback (talking about http://tinyurl.com/jxn9m)
