A download question from a guy who is just a biologist.
I'm running Acrobat Reader 2.1 on my Windows 98 Pentium III Dell computer.
Lately when I try to download pdf files from various reputable websites (mostly
government sites), the reader tries to open the document, detects errors, and
then crashes my computer. Really. So, I thought, maybe I should
update the reader. Therefore I went to Adobe.com and tried to download the
current version of the reader.
When I did that, I got a message that said "The plug in did not initialize
properly" and I clicked "OK." Then a second box popped up "Plug in
was found, but an error in the plug in has occurred." These two
messages toggle back and forth, and then my computer crashes again. Same
thing happened when I tried to download off the pdfzone website.
I have not uninstalled the old 2.1 reader since it still works
sometimes. Do I have to uninstall it to download the new
version? Is there another way to deal with this
problem? cliff
