As far as I know, whenever you open a pdf in a browser (IE), it always uses the browser plug-in.  You have to manually open the file in Reader (drop it on the desktop icon) or open Reader then open the file in Reader.  If the file is automatically opening a browser window, right click on the file and check what program pdfs are associated with.  Make sure you associate (Open with...) all pdf files with Reader, not IE.  I don't know if this helps, and if you already know all this then just ignore it.   ~James ----- Original Message ----- From: Edward Becker To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2004 8:57 PM Subject: [PDF-Basics] Acro Reader 5 prefs locked I'm having this problem where I'm creating a PDF from Oracle forms 9i and when it opens up in my browser (WinXP, IE 6) it opens up with the Acrobat 5 IE plug in. I opened up Acrobat Reader 5 and went to preferences to make it open with Reader externally and the top most checkbox was shaded and couldn't be deselected.
