As far as I know, whenever you open a pdf in a browser (IE), it always uses the browser plug-in.  You have to manually open the file in Reader (drop it on the desktop icon) or open Reader then open the file in Reader.  If the file is automatically opening a browser window, right click on the file and check what program pdfs are associated with.  Make sure you associate (Open with...) all pdf files with Reader, not IE.  I don't know if this helps, and if you already know all this then just ignore it.

Subject: [PDF-Basics] Acro Reader 5 prefs locked

I'm having this problem where I'm creating a PDF from Oracle forms 9i and when it opens up in my browser (WinXP, IE 6) it opens up with the Acrobat 5 IE plug in. I opened up Acrobat Reader 5 and went to preferences to make it open with Reader externally and the top most checkbox was shaded and couldn't be deselected. Does anyone know why this is, all the other options are selectable except this one.
