Hi Bill, I have spoken to our various web printers regarding this issue and they have *All* informed me that they do not recommend creating pdf's directly out of ACS (and in particular InDesign).

Why? What reasons do they give?

Suffice it to say that they experienced *occassional* transparency issues when beta testing with this method when they were supplied pdf's directly out of Indesign. I am sure that when they are confident of running this method then we will be notified.

Have you checked with them to make sure they are using current/updated RIPs??

Yes they are.
It would appear that writing a conventional PS 2/3 file is still required by the PS Interpretor at the RIP.

At some point, sure - BUT that point is at THEIR END by running Acrobat to render/print the PDF - it should NOT be done by YOU during generation...

Then why are we all asked to follow their Quark Print Styles with regard to Postscript Settings set to Level 1, 2 and 3, Data Format - Binary etc.? Also few (if any) repro depts. at printers run Acrobat to render pdf's here.
