The method below seems to change RGB to CMYK in Acrobat with no
problems. But I'd still like to know a couple of things. (Perhaps
Dov or someone other expert could comment?)

(1) What are the limitations of this method? (What *won't* it do
that might sometimes be important?)

(2) What ELSE should I do to make sure a professional printer
will have all that he needs to produce the highest-quality
on-paper color output?

I got this method from someone else & I've tried it (desktop
only).

Onscreen, it does change my beautiful, brilliant, high-color RGB
gradients into ugly, dull, washed-out CMYK gradients.

But I haven't yet tried to experiment further. Any info that can
"short-cut" through that experimenting process (or make it
unnecessary) w/b deeply appreciated.

Method to Convert RGB to CMYK in Acrobat:

  1. Open your original RGB-only application.
  2. Print your RGB file to the Acrobat Distiller driver.
  3. Close the file in the original app.

  4. Open the newly created .pdf file in Acrobat.
  5. Choose File / Print to get the Printer dialog box.
  6. Change your printer to Acrobat Distiller.

  7. Click the "Advanced" button (at the bottom) to get
      the Print Settings dialog box.
  8. Change the Color Profile to "Photoshop 5
      Default CMYK".
  9. Select OK and OK.

 10. Acrobat will redistill the RGB .pdf into a "CMYK build".
