There is absolutely nothing intrinsically problematic about emailing
PDF files. I send and receive literally hundreds per week via email
(a) without doing any funky compression hackery (ZIP or StuffIt, for
example) and (b) without any apparent corruption or problems in the
integrity of the sent or received files.
Problems only occur when either (a) the sender or receiver has grossly
misconfigured their email client or (b) the sender or receiver's server
is grossly misconfigured.
Again, this is not a general problem.
